Visiting Nelson is a remarkable experience.

This stunning holiday destination offers wineries, gardens, national parks, and breathtaking views. With cafes and museums just a short distance from Inn Between, our hostel is the perfect spot to lodge during your stay.

Nelson Cathedral Gardens

Situated just across the road from the INNBETWEEN lies the iconic cathedral gardens with heritage trees and blooming flowers. Take a relaxing walk in the park, have a picnic, or head into the Cathedral and discover the history of the grand scale building. It will not disappoint.

Queens Gardens

A registered historic place, the Queens Gardens is a beautifully crated classical Victorian park. Ornamental sculptures and information panels are placed throughout the garden which reveals the history. The gardens are a short walking/biking distance from INNBETWEEN and on the way to the Centre of NZ.

The Centre of NZ

The Centre of NZ was used as a surveyor’s point in the 1800’s. Just 15 minutes from INNBETWEEN, located at the end of Hardy Street, begin your walk in the Botanical Reserve and traverse to the top where a breath-taking 360-degree view of Nelson and its surroundings can be viewed.  The walk although short and steep provides a great morning/evening challenge.

Nelson Markets

There are 2 markets held every Wednesday and Saturday just shy of 10 minutes walk from INNBETWEEN. Farmer’s market held every Wednesday provide fresh and inexpensive produce for you bring back and cook. Our most famous Saturday Nelson markets include our local artisans such as cheesemongers, potters, painters, woodcarvers, knife crafters, bakers and many great food stalls, fresh fruits and vegetables, plants and flowers.

Lambretta’s Cafe and Bar

This cafe pays homage to the classic Italian scooter where the character of this place is evident by portraits and scooters mounted on walls. Just a short walk from INNBETWEEN on Hardy Street, it is the perfect place for a breakfast or lunch including a small play area for toddlers.

Natureland Wildlife Trust

Just a 15 minute drive away from INNBETWEEN, the Natureland Wildlife Trust is ideal for families with young children. For some easy going interaction, the birds, monkeys and domesticated farm animals are the main stars of the attraction. This is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon with your family.

Jen Hansen

Hand-picked by Peter Jackson, Jen Hansen was the jeweler behind the creation of ‘The ONE Ring’ as seen in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The workshop is less than 5 minutes walk from INNBETWEEN. Take a peek at the ring and other gorgeously crafted designs, and you might just be tempted to walk away with the precious! Visit Jen Hansen’s website for more information.

Nicola’s Cantina

Tucked away in Church street just 5 minutes walk from INNBETWEEN, nests a delicious Mexican restaurant. The food packs a lot of flavour and is bound to make you return for more. A local favourite, make sure you book in advance or dine early because this place packs very quickly!

Bead Gallery

Situated on Hardy Street just less than 10 minutes walk from INNBETWEEN is a unique beaded gallery shop which houses some of the most exotic beads from all over the world. Completely covered in decadent pieces of jewellery including earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, enquire from the shop assistant about making your own jewellery. Visit the Bead Gallery for more information.

World of Wearable Art and Classic Cars Museum

Next to the Nelson Airport is the museum that houses some of the most exquisite costumes and artworks worn on the body. Beginning in Nelson, and now involving world-wide entries, runways and exhibitions, there’s bound to be fascinating pieces for you to view. The Classic Cars museum has undergone hours of restoring classic motors to its former glory. This exhibit reveals the automotive history in an intriguing manner.

Nelson Lakes National Park

2 hours drive from Nelson, the national park consists of large lakes, quiet and dense beach forests, rocky mountains and crystal-clear streams. Perfect to visit in Spring/Summer for walks however if you are planning backcountry trips, check the website for details on being prepared for the road ahead.

Abel Tasman National Park

Abel Tasman Park features thriving green forests, golden sandy beaches, rocky granite structures and untouched rivers inlets. There are walking tracks as small as 45 minutes to a 3-5 day walk. Activities include camping, mountain biking and sea kayaking.
